I bought a stepper motor to use with my project. I accidentally knocked the project and the motor stopped working. Motor would make a sound but would not turn unless i forced it. Also became very hard to turn by hand when not powered. I bought a replacement and the same thing happened. It was working fine and then it got a knock (barely anything because i was being extra careful) and then it stopped working.
The motors were both powered at the time, but not running and in release mode (not holding).
Are these motors very fragile? Am i doing something wrong? Can anything be done for me?
Part number and order numbers are as follows:
Stepper motor - NEMA-17 size - 200 steps/rev, 12V 350mA[ID:324]
Order Confirmation No: 738505-3293026716
Order Confirmation No: 745235-7571355994

Re: 2 broken stepper motors
Unfortunately the project is now dismantled because of the motor issues so I am unable to get pictures. Motor was mounted to the nema17 mount which was screwed into a board of wood, and was connected to adafruit motor shield v2 via the screw down terminals.

Re: 2 broken stepper motors
The symptoms you describe sound more like a loose connection than a damaged motor. Those motors are fairly rugged. But if one of the 4 wires has a bad connection, the motor will vibrate, but not turn.

Re: 2 broken stepper motors
Bill -you got me thinking, and i went back to play with the old motors again. Turns out i had used the actual motor screws to mount the motor to the nema mount. That had caused the motor housing to be loose, which i did not realize earlier. As soon as i tightened up the motor housing, the motors came back to life. So my bad.
