EZ-Link Android support for Bluefruit LE Connect

Post by BeatleManiac »

Hello,

I'm having trouble getting my new EZ-Link Breakout to be recognized by my Droid Turbo. I can successfully pair the EZ-Link with the phone, but I'm not able to see it in the Android app. Is this module supported for Android yet? If so, what is the correct procedure to get the module to appear in the devices list?

Thanks,

Steve Hurd

The EZ-Link is a 'classic' bluetooth device. It's not Bluetooth LE. It doesn't work with the Bluefruit LE Connect app.
It will appear as a serial port on your Android

I just ordered part 2479 (uart friend). Can I use that module to program the arduino, or will I need the classic to load code and the friend to communicate with the android?

You can only load code with the EZ-Link. You can't use the BLE Friend for that.
The Friend will communicate with your Android.

Idea for a future product, maybe?

I can set up my project to use both, but I'd prefer a single module that provides both functions.

Thanks again!

Don't know if that would work, but I'll mention it to engineering.

Too late! I already got the LE UART friend! Since I now have both the ez-link and the Friend, what is the best way to switch between the two in the same project box? I was thinking about putting either the V+ or GND lines on a spst switch to apply power to one or the other. I could also use a spdt switch and swap out the rx & tx lines so both devices would be on at the same time, but only one could communicate with the Arduino Uno at a time.

Suggestions?

I guess I would put the switch on the power lines. No sense having them both on at the same time.

BeatleManiac,
I am interested in what you are doing to use both the Bluefruit Friend and the EZ Link together.

Hi rezcar!

I'm just now seeing your message. Sorry! I haven't been on the forum in a while. What would you like to know?

No problem! I was just wondering what sort of project you had which uses both the EZ Link and the Bluefruit Friend? I bought the Friend first but later realized I needed the EZ Link, which I never got working. I was thinking of making one of these, https://learn.adafruit.com/bluetooth-mo ... w?view=all
but the tutorial talks more about building the slider rather than using the Friend and the app. There's millions of slider builds on the net, but the tutorial BANNED you and sucks your money in. So I don't really know what the Friend can do.
