Narrow Beam LED not working, Works Through Windows?

Post by pocket rocket »

Hey I just made my tv be gone and one of the narrow beam LEDs doesnt work what could cause this? Should I try to unsolder it then resolder it or what could be wrong? Also where can I buy a replacement? One last thing, can this work through double-pane windows like ones many people have in their homes?

Working through double pane windows, completely depends on what type of glass is used in those windows. some types, like lead glass, (both mine and my next door neighbour) blocks the IR light signal completely.

i would first check if the LED or transistor is in backwards, or if there's a short circuit. reflow the solder points too.
you can buy IR leds at electronics shops, including radio shack!
