Programming an ATMega8

Post by fergofrog »

I have an ATMega8 that I want to program, however it's clock source is set for a 3-8MHz ceramic resonator, can I program it or at least burn its fuses without the resonator installed (I don't have one easily accessible, so I'm trying to avoid that)?

While I don't think you can program it normally without a resonator, you might be able to half-ass a resonator out of an oscillator circuit. I don't really know how to do that, as I don't know much about oscillator circuits, but there might be someone else on the board who would.
