Before I get started with my 3V trinket

Post by Grumpy_Popeye »

I have a couple quick questions;

- Can my 3V trinket power a 3LED(series) array, and
- Do I absolutely need a motor Shield if I want to power a small motor/gearbox combo?

I'm planning on using my trinket for a model kit of the Nautilus submarine. My plan has three warm white LEDs lighting up the saloon, another three LEDs on a fade to light up the engine core and finally a small geared motor for turning the prop.

Thanks!

3 LEDs in serias will need something like 9V, which the Trinket can't provide. You can wire them up to three output pins and do it that way. You'll want a current-limiting resistor on each LED.

The Trinket does have PWM outputs which may be able to drive your motor, depending on the current requirements.

Hm, I kind of suspected that would be the case, I'll just run the system off 9 volts and use the trinket for the pulsing engine core and the motor.

In the meantime,

Brain flash! Maybe I can use the trinket to play a recording of an organ!?

Well, you could:

But then you couldn't use it for anything else. The audio player uses up all the pins.

Hm, I may just use an independent audio player then as I'm more about the blinky lights!
