battery for my raspberry pi

Post by berko »

Hi, i need a battery for my rasPi and want to see if i can make use of the one i have before purchasing one.

I have a radio shack battery that is meant to charge up a phone on the go.
the output (via USB) is 5v/2.1A max.
Capacity: 22.2Wh (6000mAh)

the charger i got with the pi (from adafruit) is 5.2v / 1A

i used the battery (briefly) to boot up the pi but shut down right away in fear it would break it.

can i use the battery? and if not which battery do you recommend? i will be using the pi with camera to do some openCV computer vision stuff and then talking to a arduino via either serial or i2c.

thanks for any advice.

If it is a lipo then there is a boost converter involved but it should work. How long is the question and you would need to test that and be aware that the results will vary depending on what the pi is spending it's time doing.
