In my prototype application, it sometimes was occuring that the board is powered up (5v) with one of the triggers held low. This seems to make the unit "glitch out" in a very specific way (LED power light cycling with speaker producing audio crackles in time). Power dissipation in the 5v circuit also fluctuates with the blinking. It is not always recoverable simply by resetting / cycling the board (gets into state where green LED never comes up on power) - I thought initially that I had somehow fried it, but eventually cycling on/off seems to get it back to functional.
Is this normal/reasonable behavior? Or is there something wacky with my unit? Do I need to float the trigger pins when powering this board?

No, that's unusual.
The FX board should start by putting the pins in a known state. Does it behave that way when it isn't connected to anything?
