Help with Raspberry Pi 2

Post by my_junkmail »

The new Pi 2 that I purchased  is dead on arrival.  I can't get past the initial "rainbow" splash screen.  The red power light is on, but I never see the green activity led light.  I've tried both the pre-installed/loaded wheezy sd card (purchased in this same Adafruit order) and an 8 gig card that I use in another raspberry pi.   Both cards do the same thing in the Pi 2 (rainbow, no green act LED).  Both cards work if I use them in my B+ pi....therefore I'm pretty sure there is a hardware issue with my new Pi 2.

What are my options? Customer support said I had to post here first to see if tech support could help.

Order number was No: 733490-0566084699

Make sure you have the most recent version of Raspbian.

The v2 has a new microprocessor, so older versions of the OS won't work. You need 2015-01-31 or newer.

You can check the date of the version on your existing cards by booting on the B+ and entering:

Code: Select all

dmesg | head | grep version

Doh! Thanks. That was it. Not sure how I missed this. I had picked the B+ instead of raspberry 2 link.

Rasp 2 is up and running...Thanks again for the help.
