What does mean by Launch4j error?

by Dibin M Dixit on Sun Mar 11, 2012 7:38 am

Hey recently i've bought Arduino Uno board. My drivers and everything get installed easily.. and then i downloaded the Arduino software from their site. It is instructed to extract the file and run arduino.exe from it. i did the same. but when it is opening it shows an error called, Launch4j "An error occurred while opening the application" . It freezes like hell, i can't change my port number for uploading, the tools tab doesnt work, it gets struck. My COM port is 39 for Arduino but in Serial port config in Software it is not visible. Mine is Win7 64-bit(Original), I disabled the Digital signature at boot tart, but still same problem arises. Somebody help me! :(

This is a problem in Java. Sometimes caused by conflicting libraries. Here is one fix:

No friend, i've tried the same before. What it exactly does is that, it intimates me that the default location for sketchbook is missing and it will create a new one. Then when i give ok , it creates a new folder called Arduino inside My Documents and then displays the same Launch4j error.. I'm confused :(

I'm running Win7/64 without problems. What version of the IDE are you running? Is this the first version you have installed on this machine?

No, I've installed the latest version called Arduino-1.0 Windows, which is currently available for download from their site. If you have any better versions (Older ones) gimme a link to download.....
There is some problem related to Java only i guess, Cause this same version works fine in all 32-bit systems except mine!

Possibly some other version of Java is installed on your machine? I have every version of the Arduino IDE since 0012 on my current Win7/64 machine, so there is no compatibility issue there.

Older versions are available at www.arduino.cc, but I'm not sure they would fix the problem you are seeing.

I've tried out some older versions.(Arduino -0021) and it even takes a long time to load and it shows the same Launch4j Error.
I've no idea what's going on in my system. Every software and stuff works fine except this one Software

I did some searching over at Arduino.cc. There are a number of reports of the same or similar errors. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a solution that works for everyone. You might try some of the remedies in the comments here: http://code.google.com/p/arduino/issues/detail?id=213

Actually none of the solutions available in net works. The only solution for it, is to switch off the Bluetooth Adapter in your laptop or desktop running Win7 64 Bit. It's funny but works perfectly.

This thread sickens me - I don't have Blooootooth or wireless adapters on my PC!
I got 2 wired network cards - one is disabled and the other connects me to the Internet.

Where is this Arduino "data" folder that some loons (people who don't describe things properly) keep yammering on about?
Please could some grown up give the rest of the world a blow-by-blow (explicit button presses, menu options, etc) as to how to fix this blasted problem!

Why oh why did anyone choose to distribute an IDE that uses Java?
If it were written in C or C++ nobody would be having this third-party issue.
I know Java is filled with cumfy cushions to make it easier for novices to program stuff. And C is a hard language to master - but could someone at least try?

Rant over.

Please, please could a grown up give a plain text solution to this.

I'm getting ready to send my Leonardo back for a refund.
