RGB Pixel Strand Half Illuminated w/ Duemilanove

Postby julianne114 » Thu Apr 26, 2012 3:20 pm

Hi there,

I'm trying to use two strands of adafruit rgb pixel strands with an arduino duemilanove and only half of the first strand is coming on with the strandtest. Any advice? I have tried plugging data and clock into 2 and 3, 5 and 6, and 12 and 13 with no luck. The first led cycles through colors and the following 10 glow white.

Help?

Thank you!
Jules

Check the strand for breaks in the data lines and make sure you are following the power guidlines by providing adequate power.

I have 5v power adapter connected to a terminal block...connected to red and blue with the second blue wire going to ground and the yellow and green connected to data and clock.

There shouldn't be a power problem. What else could it be?

I have 5v power adapter

What is the current rating for the power adapter? Pixels can get flaky when power is low and there is typically some voltage drop further down the strand.

Your connections are correct if the first pixels are working. As suggested, also check for broken wires - most common at the attachment to the pixels. Sometimes squeezing or wiggling the wires will bring them to life. Don't worry, we'll replace it if it is defective. Just trying to get an accurate diagnosis.

So with a little wiggling, all pixels illuminated and ran through the rainbow sequence. with more jiggling, though there was flakiness in the colors and the number of leds that came on. May be a faulty connection somewhere...?

Sounds like a bad connection internally. Contact support@adafruit.com with a link to this thread & ask for a replacement strand.
