Power pin from external 5V with USB connect

Postby moo » Sun Apr 29, 2012 3:34 pm

Is it possible to make several digital inputs from a external power source, switched from 12V to 5V on my breadboard using 10K pots., when USB is also connected? Will it be a ground loop? The two grounds are connected, but there might not be isolation enough? Any thought on this?

It would help to see the circuit.
