Will these pixels work

Postby scorpie » Tue May 01, 2012 2:14 pm

HI,

just would like to know if these http://www.adafruit.com/products/738 pixels will work with the fastspi.h library. I'm asking cuz I have some with that chip and all I get is one blue led (the first one) after uploading the sketch.

I think I made all necessary settings like: how many leds, pins, data rate, which chip, but whatever I try it is not working. I own a arduino uno smd bought some weeks ago. The ws2801 sketch works.

Thanks

Did you order the pixels from Adafruit?

Probably, but I can't guarantee it. FastSPI is known not to compile under Arduino 1.0 yet, so if you're using the latest IDE, it could be an issue. You might also need to tweak the data rate for the current pixels (1 MHz). Otherwise, probably OK.

If in doubt, I'd suggest sticking with the stock WS2801 library, or (if you'll be streaming data from a computer), the LEDstream sketch from Adalight. Though neither contains 'fast' in the name, they actually perform just fine, and are known to work with the LEDs in the shop.

the latest source DOES compile under arduino 1.0

but i can't get it to work with my WS2801 strand :(

very frustrating!

trying to get This sketch to use the adafruit ws2801 library in stead of FastSPI is almost undoable...at least whith my knowledge :(

as tmaniac wrote, you can compile it under arduino 1.o now, but that's it.

I tried the LEDstream sketch but my full hd movies are not watchable then even with 10 frames and I don't think my pc is too weak.

intel Q6000
6 gig ram
nvidia 250 gt

should be enough.

adafruit sells both, the pixels and the arduino, could it be tested by them with the fastspi" Shouldn't be too hard to do so.
