Mood lighting...

Postby VaguelyUseful » Wed May 02, 2012 11:35 pm

I'm working on a project at the moment using Arduino and a pair of blinkm maxm's. I'm replacing the reading lights on my headboard and adding a little mood lighting to go along with it. The control panel has two buttons that control what to display, and I'm pretty sure I have it all figured out, except I want to run a few details past someone with more experience in these matters than myself.

A demonstration and pictures...

Is it safe for me to power a couple of BlinkM MaxM's through CAT6 cable? It's 24AWG solid core copper cable that I'm using, and I don't expect a problem, but it's been on my mind since I started this thing.

Any questions or comments are appreciated.

Thanks

Shouldn't be a problem unless you are planning on extremely long cable runs.

How long would be extreme?

Which BlinkMs? 24 AWG is about 25 ohms per 1000 ft. For MaxMs driving high-power emitters, I'd keep it to a couple feet. For regular BlinkMs, you probably want to keep it under a mile
