Motorshield & UNO compatibility

Post by davidb_ »

Is the Motorshield compatible with the UNO? Just putting the jumpers on noticed that the 6 pin power header maps to an 8 pin header on the UNO, but it looks like the UNO has extra ground PIN - So goes Vin GND GND 5V 3V on the shield that is Vin Gnd 5v 3v? Any ideas or am I going to have to put patch wires. I was hoping to put stacking headers on..

Yes, it is compatible. The latest rev of the Uno (R3) has two extra pins on two of the headers. These are not required for operation. They are duplicates of the I2C and other pins. They are just to assure compatibility with the MEGA R3 and future versions of the Arduino.

Ok many thanks for rapid response - reading the silk screen from the other way round it makes sense, in fact the GND on the motorshield is between two pins now I look carefully!

Many thanks again.

The power jumper is that for external power source?

With the power jumper installed, it uses the Arduino VIN (from the SC barrel jack). If you want to use a separate external power source, you should remove the jumper.
