Problem with Adalight

by briefer on Thu Mar 28, 2013 5:24 am

Hi!

this is my first post and I expect it won't be the last ;)

I have a problem with Adalight. I follow the instructions, but it seems like there are some "gremlin" in the installation.

Step by step: Microcode uploaded to the arduino board:

Processing running Swirlcolor:

Power supply connected:

Arduino connected to the ws2801 strip:

and power supply specs:

This is the behaviour of the setup. As installed, only the led closer to the data entry is lit.

If I "ground" the blue cable with my fingers, the LEDs blink as shown in this video (yes, that's me on the TV reflection :D )

And this is what happens if I plug the blue cable to the GNC pin of the board.

My Arduino board is a Mega 1280. Is there anything different to bear in mind with this model?

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

BTW I checked the power supply and it reads 5V with the multimeter. I cannot test the amperage, though, my multimeter tops at 250mAh.

Most likely culprit: clock and data lines are reversed. Try swapping the wires in pins 11 and 13.

Unrelated, but an important safety suggestion: clip off the tips or put heat shrink over the exposed power wires on the Arduino end!
