Using the Arduino Micro as a Flora
The Arduino Micro without headers caught my eye as I thought, couldn't this be used as a Flora basically with conductive thread running through the headerless pins? How would the Flora be anymore useful than this??

Re: Using the Arduino Micro as a Flora
You can certainly use the Micro like a Flora.Rahatmaini wrote:couldn't this be used as a Flora basically with conductive thread running through the headerless pins?
The Flora was designed to be a lot more flexible for wearables than something like the Micro. First of all, it has a much more sophisticated power-supply, which can accept anything from 3.7V to 16V. LiPo batteries run at 3.7V, and that's important for wearables since they have a very high energy density compared to alkalines or NiMHs. For comparable run-times, LiPo's will be smaller and lighter. They re-charge more quickly, as well.Rahatmaini wrote:How would the Flora be anymore useful than this??
Also, the Flora runs at 3.3V , while the Micro runs at 5V, which also leads to longer battery life.
The form-factor of the Flora is better for conductive thread, since the pin pads are larger and spaced farther apart. That means there is less chance of the threads contacting the adjacent pins. You can't solder the thread, so the close pin spacing on the Micro makes it much more difficult to work with
