Wireless Connection Choices For Uno

Hello. I would like to have wireless data transfer from the Arduino Uno to my computer or wifi router. I am a newbie and really perplexed by all the options. The existing wifi shield options do not sound reliable, but what do you recommend for wireless transmission over a few hundred feet either to a computer or to the wifi route in the home?

Your best bet is probably one of the XBee modules. The easiest-to-use model would be the S1, which promises a range of up to 300'/90m line-of-sight.
