lcd Shield

Hi,
I have just assembled the (RGB) lcd shield and uploaded the example "Hello World" code.

It is backlighting well, and the buttons change color nicely, and the serial monitor prints "took 73 ms" as it should.
However, I can't get any text to show up on the lcd screen. I have tried adjusting the contrast back and forth, and am able to get the boxes showing up on the screen, but no text.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated!

Edit: Not sure if this is relevant, but there are two rows of boxes, and the lower row has only three rows of pixels as opposed to the 8 or so in the top row.

Sounds like it might be a bad display, but let's have a look at the whole thing first.
Post photos of the front & back of the shield.

Thanks for looking into it.
I've attached a picture of the front, back, and close-ups of the solder points.
Since the post only allows three attachments, I'll post the others in another reply.

I figured I might have shorted something, but I couldn't find any evidence of it.

Those are pretty blurry, but it looks like some questionable solder joints on the display header. See if you can get some in-focus shots that clearly show your soldering.

EDIT: Ok, third time lucky!!! I really am that crappy at soldering apparently. It's working great now. Thanks for your help!!!
