0.8" 8x8 Matrix Blue

Post by Marino »

Hey there, soldered everything together with two different units now, just downloaded grphx and backpack libs from github and when I compile and upload matrix8x8.ino I don't get the hello world program, just 4 LED shaping a 5x6 square seeming to blink randomly..

I am not sure what happened, I followed the directions for the 0.8" 8x8 Matrix tutorial to the point(super ez+fun) but I am getting these strange behaviors on all 3 of the backpack units i bought..

Anyone know whats up? happened to anyone before? I hope I am just doing some idiot move!

Swapping arduinos to check to see if thats the prob..

Post photos showing your soldering and connections to the Arduino.

Quite a few of your solder joints look like they have not flowed very well onto the solder pad. These will not make a reliable electrical connection. See this guide for tips on fixing these: http://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-guid ... n-problems

The "four dots" thing is usually symptomatic of a matrix that's been installed backwards. You have a 1.2" matrix there, not 0.8", and these require a specific orientation:

With a solder sucker and some patience, you can usually remove the matrix to get it turned around.
