Adafruit Ultimate GPS Breakout v3 issues getting data

I am having trouble with the "Adafruit Ultimate GPS Breakout - 66 channel w/10 Hz updates - Version 3". It just arrived and I set it up with my ardino uno based on the documentation.



I just get this strange output. I was hoping I could get some advise on what the issue is with all the strange charaters. My serial monitor outputs the little characters very fast.

The echo program uses a baud rate of 115200 and your serial monitor is set to 9600. You need to change one of these.

I thought the baud rate was only set in the program, I did not realize that the baud rate was also set in the serial monitor just like a traditional serial server.
