How to OSHW?

Post by wa7iut »

I want to release some hardware (pcb) I've designed for energy scavenging using the linear technologies LTC3108 chip under the OSHW license (see www.ambientsensors.com). I have looked at http://freedomdefined.org/OSHW but I'm still unsure of the steps I should follow to do this formally. Is there a formal process to OSHW? Also, I would like to add the OSHW logo to my board but having some technical problems with Eagle as well as wondering if I need to be authorized somehow to do this in the first place. A blog piece on the steps to release OSHW would be nice (or maybe I'm making too much of it).

All the Best,

Bob

hiya!

thanks for posting. you really don't need to do much.

1) post up your files online, choose a license. for now we use creative commons share-alike, attribution. click the downloads section on the product to see what we do:
http://www.adafruit.com/products/51

2) you don't need to be authorized to use the logo, just look around for how to add logos on PCBs. here's one:

cheers,

This raises another issue, which is, where is the best place to make files available? Does it make sense to put them on Sourceforge or Github? Both of those seem more like software sites.

we like github, it works for hardware too - it's all just files.
