Is the motor shield supplied by Adafruit suitable for me?

Hi there, new to this forum.

I have a project where I would like to control 3 different actuators that take 12 volts and 2 amps to run, or 24 volts and 1 amp. I would only run 1 at a time, and never for more than 15 seconds at a time. So, would the motorshield by adafruit work for me? I have found many on the net and they all seem only to support only 2 motors. But adafruits shield supports 4 - right (I only need three). I don't quite understand the different between "servos" "steppers" etc.

Can anyone confirm this for me?

What kind of actuators are you talking about?

Assuming these actuators are based on DC motors, the shield in the standard configuration can handle up to 36v @0.6A per motor channel. It is easily modified to handle 1-2A. Given the choice, I would recommend the 24v @1A option.
