LED with wave shield

Post by One_ »

Hello,
I've made the wave shield and added a PIR motion sensor and got that all working. I now want to add one LED, so when the sensor senses motion the shield plays, and the LED flashes.

I've been looking around and I can't find any info on it, even though I bet theres loads on it. The sensor I have is attached to pin 0, 5v and ground on the shield.

Is there a way I can also attach the LED onto the shield aswell, or do I need it to go on the breadboard?
Also what pins should I attach the LED too?

Thanks.

There is an unused "LED2" on the board. If you populate that, along with the 4.7K R10 next to it, you can then run a jumper to any spare pin to control it.

Thanks for the reply.

So I just put the LED into the LED2 on the board. Then a 4.7k resistor in the R10 slot. Correct?

:)

Yes. There is a hole next to the end of R10 (look at the bottom of the board and you will see them connected by a trace). You can run the jumper from there to any spare pin to control it.

Thank you. I'll get to it.

One quick newbie question.... which way should the resistor go in the R10?

Thanks.

It doesn't matter. Resistors can go either way.

This might be a super silly noob question but I have a very similar set up with the wave shield and a pir sensor. My sensor has two red led's on it that go off when the sensor is triggered. Can I remove or obscure them or are they necessary for the sensor to detect motion?

They are not necessary for detection. I would guess you could probably remove them. Covering them should be no problem at all.

Hi, I'm afraid I have another noob question. When you say connect it to any spare pin. Do you actually mean any spare pin on the wave shield does it need to be any spare pin on the analog input side or the digital I/O side?

Thanks.

Any analog or digital pin that is not being used. The pins in use by the shield itself are listed in the FAQ: http://www.ladyada.net/make/waveshield/faq.html
