Stepper motor wiring

Post by henry.best »

I've recovered a stepper motor from an old scanner. There are 6 wires coming from it: White, Blue, Red, Yellow and 2 Brown.
It's a Teco type 4H4018S0106 marked 12V, 0.2A, 1.8Deg. The Teco site shows some 6 wire steppers, but none of them have those colour wires and there's no archival records to look up.
How do I connect it to a motor shield and get the neccessary phase shifts?

There is no real standard for wire colors. But it is not hard to figure it out with a multimeter. There is a link on reverse-engineering stepper pinouts here:

Please note that the http://www.makingthings.com link appears to be broken :(
