There are no issues with MacOS opening zip or tar.gz files.
Go here and click "Download as .zip"
MacOS should automatically decompress the .zip file into a folder called "adafruit-RTClib-08c0e61".
Rename this folder "RTCLib", and move it to the libraries folder inside your arduino folder. If the libraries folder does not yet exist, create a new folder called 'libraries'.
On my Mac, it looks like this:
/myHome/Documents/Arduino/libraries/RTCLib
Go here and click "Download as .zip"
