Expensive RTC chip on data logging shield
Why have you used the DS1307 real time clock on the data logging shield? On Newark, this costs $3 while there is a bunch of RTC chips priced below $1.

The DS1307 is easily interfaced via i2c and has a well supported Arduino library.

Ok. Thanks for the answer.
-Where can I find the schematics for the current version of the logging shield?

The schematics are the same on the two boards. We just re-did the layout for surface mount on the latest version. Here are the board files for the through-hole version: https://github.com/adafruit/Data-Logger-shield

Hi,
I guess I'm continuing on a side topic of this thread, but I'm also interested in the Eagle files for the v. 1.1 of the board.
I would like to customize it, and could use the extra space the SMD-stuff released.
Anyway, already a big thank you for putting those source files out there for v. 1.0!
btw... no plans for replacing the SD-card by a micro-SD card? It would salvage even a bit more space

I'll see if I can track them down...

Re: Expensive RTC chip on data logging shield
I'm sorry, but I don't agree that the 1.0 schematic has been used on the new SMT logger shield (article number 1141). I have the board in front of me, and it has two additional LEDs, one power LED and one SD clock LED.
It would be nice to see that schematic.

Need schematic for logging shield!
I would really need the new schematic for the logging shield (article number 1141). Can you please publish it? I am definitely certain that it has been changed since the non-SMT version of the board.
Please?
Please?

It's already on our to-do list. No ETA though - sorry.

Re: Expensive RTC chip on data logging shield
Hi All,
Just because the shield is hard to get in Australia, I remixed the v 1.0 shield with SMD parts from the Seeed OPL and created a github fork - https://github.com/whatnick/Data-Logger-shield . I am going to send it to fab soon. Meanwhile I would like some feedback. I kept the Adafruit text since it is just a re-layout. Might add some Grove connectors and other things too.
Cheers,
whatnick.

hi please remove the adafruit text, it is our trademark. you can say it is a derivative of our work, but not imply that we manufactured it
