motor sheild library

Hi there

i have just purchased your Arduino motor shield and was advised to download the respective library from GIThub.

i did this and extracted the file and saved it in my "libraries" section of my Arduino folder and opened an Arduino sketch.

when i did i received a message saying "The Library "Adafruit-Motor-Shield-Library" cannot be used. Library names must only contain basic letters and numbers.

as a point of reference, i downloaded the "newping" library also today, which installed without issue

please advise if i have done something incorrect.

Github likes to put dashes in the repository names. But for some reason the Arduino IDE does not accept dashes.

If you rename the folder - replacing dashes with underscores it will accept it. Be sure to shut down all open IDE windows and re-open after the rename.
