CC3000: Problem with power down and fast reconnection

I know that its an old topic but I have the CC3000 shield and I want to use it on my project
the problem I have is that the connection time is too long and on this time 3-6 seconds all my sketch freezes,
was nice enough to do the connection on background and only to report back when is connected
is that possible?

You can call cc3000.checkConnected() to see whether the module has a working wifi connection.
