music maker shield

Post by ahmedablak »

hi, i have recently bought the adafruit music maker shield w/3W Stereo Amp. i have two speaker of rating 4ohm-3w. the tutorial points out that i might need to power the Arduino from DC power jack instead of USB since USB can only provide 5W (5V @ 1A) max and two 3W speakers = 6W. is DC power jack really needed if i'm using 3w speakers? or its just a suggestion to increase the loudness?
P.S. will i end up damaging my shield if both speakers are connected using USB

You should be OK. The power will just be less and as you say lower in volume.
