Need help running a stepper motor with arduino shield

Post by qpham26 »

Hi, I just got this shield
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-motor-shield

and I have this 12v stepper motor
http://www.frys.com/product/7726708?sit ... IN_RSLT_PG

Its have 6 wires. 2 of them are GND and GND2. So if I want to use the motor as a bipolar stepper, I would only need the other 4 wires?

Lets assume I got all the wire connected properly. Would I be able to run the Stepper test using the power from the usb port? or I need more power to run this motor? The LED did turn on with the USB cable.

Thanks for your help.

Correct. Use a multimeter to figure out which pairs are connected internally. Connect each of those pairs to a channel on the motor shield (M1 & M2 or M3 & M4)

That motor is designed for 12v operation. It may run on 5v, but probably will not have much torque.
The LED did turn on with the USB cable.
Are you referring to the power LED on the shield? If running from USB power, you would need to install the VIN jumper.
