Wave shield + Solar charger

Post by Sodacake »

Hi All,

I want to power the Arduino Uno + infrared sensor + Adafruit Wave Shield using solar power. Will this solution do the trick: ?

USB / DC / Solar Lithium Ion/Polymer charger - v2 https://www.adafruit.com/product/390

or do I need anything else (other than the solar panel obviously)

many thanks

You'll probably want a PowerBoost as well:

LiPo cells only charge to about 4.2v at most, and their nominal voltage is about 3.7v. An Arduino can probably run on 3.7v (running at 16MHz from any supply voltage below 4.5v counts as overclocking, which isn't officially supported, but we've never seen a chip that can't do it), but the Wave Shield's output is specifically designed for 5v.

Hey thanks Mike, that sounds great. I'll give it a go.
