Solar power FM station with MP3 Shield

Post by timflood04 »

Hello,

I'm designing a project using the Arduino Uno, an Adafruit "Music Maker" MP3 Shield and an Adafruit Stereo FM transmitter. I would like this project to stay on and transmit 24 hours a day. I would also like to power the project with a solar panel. I'm trying to figure it all out on my own without bothering anyone, but I can't find information on the power consumption of the MP3 shield and the FM transmitter. It's difficult to know what kind of solar components I'll need without this information. Can anyone please let me know what kind of power these will pull?

Thanks!
Tim

just as a total guess, we're going to assume it will draw 100mA during transmit -> 20mA for the Arduino, 50mA for the mp3 and sd card, and about 30ma for FM transmission. checking the datasheet for the VS1053 and SiLabs FM xmitter will give you more precise numbers
