Hi:
I've been happily building a project on my new Arduino Data Logging Shield when I noticed that a surface mount component above the Vin pin has been knocked off. I wasn't working in that area specifically, so I can't explain how it happened. See attached photo.
What functions of the data logging shield might this affect?
Also, I could probably repair this if I knew which part to order. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Re: Missing surface mount component from Data Logging Shield
That is (or was) an 0805 10uF output smoothing capacitor for the 3.3v voltage regulator.
It isn't a super-critical part. Its job is to keep the power coming out of the regulator at a smooth, steady voltage when there are sudden changes in the load current. It sits in parallel with the part just to the right, which is a 100nF smoothing capacitor. That one also absorbs voltage spikes, but responds faster than the 10uF cap.
The effect of losing the 10uF cap is slightly more ripple on the 3.3v rail and slightly less safety margin preventing voltage spikes from causing errors in the digital logic signals. Honestly, you probably won't ever notice it's gone.
These would be good as a replacement:

Re: Missing surface mount component from Data Logging Shield
Thanks, Mike, for the super helpful reply! I'm glad it won't be a problem for me as I'm exclusively using the 5V output to run my sensors.
Cheers!
