Power Supply for 16-channel 12-bit pwm/servo shield - i2c in

Post by cpenzo13 »

HI, I´m going to use 5 of 16-channel 12-bit pwm/servo shield - i2c interface. In the data sheet say "If you are chaining multiple driver boards, you
only need a power terminal on the first one" , so i´m little confused, Do I have to connect my power supply only in the firt board and with that supply is going to supply all of 5 board? What power supply do I have to use?

I´m going to use a dc motor on 250mA (max) at 3v. with a transistor, plus a resistor and a diode.

thank.

If you have 5 boards with 16 channels and one 250mA motor per channel, you will need a 3v power supply that can provide 5 * 16 * 250mA 20,000mA (20A)

20A is a lot of power - too much to pass through from the first board.. You should run wires from the power supply to the external power terminals on each board.

Another option - since 20A supplies can be quite expensive - is to use a separate 4A supply for each board.
