Has anyone else experienced this issue?
I was running 2 moon 17HD steppers, when I heard a crackle, looked over to the controller, and saw smoke come out of it. I immediately cut power.
I don't see any damage, but my power supply won't get it past 3 volts before it wants to spike to 2A.
The UNO is fine. It was not powering the board.
Thoughts?
I was planning on ordering another board so I can run three steppers for my project, but I'm a little concerned now.
Thanks,
D

Upon inspection, it looks like the TB435A1 for Stepper 2 has a wart in it. That sucks. This is the first time I've really had a chance to use this board. My current never spiked above its rating.
I don't have the soldering gear to replace that.
Well, dang.

Could you post large (less than 1meg,~800x600), clear, detailed pictures of both sides of your board showing any soldering you have done and the connections to it?

What are the electrical specs of the motors you are using? The shield is only rated for 1.2A/phase.

They are Moon 17HD's from my old cupcake printer. The specs for them are 0.3-0.5A.

Can you read any date code on the burnt out chip? does the same motor work on the other side of the shield?

I've got a shot here of the chip:
TB435A1
6612FNG
One looks cooked, and isn't working, but the board wasn't letting me get much voltage/current (it would start climbing past 1.2A after 2-ish volts) to it anymore, so I can't speak to the second chip.
