PowerBoost 500 Shield does not work :(

Post by jaymob »

Hello,
My new PowerBoost 500 Shield has stopped working. It worked for about an hour and then stopped.
Now, when plugged in via USB the yellow charge light turns on... but the "done" light never comes on, even after charging for a full day. And when I turn the switch to "on" after a full day of charging the blue "+5V" light does not turn on, and the shield is unable to power an arduino (I'm using a Uno R3).
.
I know the battery is well charged because I charged it in another device (FONA 800 shield) and the battery works fine there and is able to fully charge.
I've attached some photographs of my soldering job for the pins for you to inspect. Please advise.
Thanks.

The solder joints look good.

Disconnect the shield from the Arduino and the LiPo, and take a resistance reading between the pins of JST connector where the LiPo plugs in. What resistance do you see?

Thank you. That means something has gone wrong in the boost converter.

Send a note to [email protected] with a link to this thread and the folks there will get you a replacement.

Thank you very much for your help. I've contacted customer support, and they have already sent a replacement.
Very commendable customer service, in both the forums and replacement support.
THanks again.
