I'M WORKING ON A PROJECT THAT USES THE ARDUINO MANAGER APP TO CONTROL A TOGGLE SWITCH. I WOULD LIKE TO USE WIFI BECAUSE I'VE TRIED BLE AND I CAN'T GET A STRONG ENOUGH SIGNAL DUE TO DISTANCE. THE ARDUINO MANAGER APP SAYS IT WORKS WITH EITHER A WiFi Shield OR THE Adafruit CC3000 WiFi breakout or shield. SINCE I'M STILL IN THE LEARNING MODE, WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND. I'M USING AN ARDUINO UNO
THANK YOU

Re: WIFI Shield
Which Arduino manager app are you referring to? Do you have a link?

Re: WIFI Shield
I don't see any Arduino software on that page.
We really can't support third-party software like that anyway. You should contact the author for support.

Re: WIFI Shield
I went ahead and purchased a CC3000 wifi breakout board. The app on my iphone needs 'board IP port' number. I ran the buildtest sketch which worked fine however I could not find a reference to this port number on the serial monitor. It did give me the 'board ip address', which I needed
Any idea how I can determine the IP port number?
Thanks

Re: WIFI Shield
The port is something that is assigned by the Arduino sketch when it creates a TCP server object.
Have a look at some of the server example sketches. Echoserver is the simplest. It shows how to set up a TCP server. The port is assigned like this:
You probably don't want to use port 7. Use something like 7000 instead.

Code: Select all
#define LISTEN_PORT 7 // What TCP port to listen on for connections. The echo protocol uses port 7.
Adafruit_CC3000_Server echoServer(LISTEN_PORT);
