Hi,
I have this adafruit motorshield https://www.adafruit.com/products/81 and I would like to use it in a dark space. Is it okay just to break the LED? Or do I destroy the board with destroying the LED? Because I don't want to have the green light of the LED.

I would just unsolder one end of R3 (or R1 depending on which silkscreen you have, it's the one right next to the LED) rather than break the LED.
