I did a quick topic search and didn't see anything about this, so -
I tried to put my TweetAWatt hardware together today. Not knowing that my KillAWatt is mo' special, I didn't really do a "let's see if everything fits" test before assembling. I now realize that my KaW is apparently an earlier model than what has been discussed here - and as such, it's going to be a very tight fit to get the XBee assembly and mega-capacitor in there.
Note that I sorta inherited this KaW with the house we live in - we bought the house in 2004 and I found this KaW at some point after moving in.
I can't find the pics I took of this Vintage KaW at the moment, but - it's definitely a different animal than either of the units mentioned in the TaW article... Just FYI for anyone trying to repurpose a vintage unit.
cheers,
Dave B.

Were you ever able to make it fit?
I want to order the kit, but I have the same Kill A Watt and don't see how you could possibly fit the cap in there.
Unlike this photo:
The Kill A Watt's back PCB takes up the whole back of the case.

I just noticed something interesting. The inside pictures of the P4460 from this thread:
http://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=10702
Look identical to the inside of my P4400. I assume since he couldn't get everything to work/fit inside the case, I may have the same problems.

Yup, I was able to get it in there, but I had to "remotely" mount the LED. To be sure, it's a tight fit. I used some thick clear plastic tape to make an insulator for the back of the XBee assembly.
BTW, you might note that I had to replace the ribbon cable that connects the two KaW halves together. The original cable is pretty fragile, and won't withstand too many bending actions, so be careful.
