XBee adater breakout pins not level shifted

Post by avignon96 »

I am really new in this field, and trying to understand every line of the information before getting stuff. Can anyone give me more explanation what the last line means of the below about XBee adapter?

The DTR, RTS, RESET and RX pins (going into the XBee) pass through a level converter chip that brings the levels to 3.3V. You can use pretty much anywhere between 2.7 to 5.5V data to communicate with the XBee. The breakout pins on the bottom of the board are not level shifted and you should try to keep data going directly into the XBee pins under 3.3V

Thanks in advance.

the pins under the board go directly to the xbee and since the xbee is 3.3v you need to keep voltages below that IF you are connecting to these pins.

So sorry for the late response, and thanks for care.

The reply by franklin97355 makes me make this guess:
XBee needs 3.3v power.
Since a 3.3v regulator is attached to the pin of '+5v', so no concerns.
But, for the bottom pin, exact 3.3v power should be connected.

Do I understand correctly?

Thank you in advance.

For the previous reply, I meant that either 3.3v, 5v, or even higher one can be connected to the '+5v' pin, by 'no concern'.
Is this right?

Thanks again.

the 3.3v pin is 'output' you should put about 5V into the regulator. I think 6V is the max

But if I read your plan right, the Dout is not shifted, isn't it ?
Why you don't use a bidirectional level shifter ???

because its an output. at 3.3V its above the threshhold for 5V which is 2.5v.
