Hi,

still waiting the three (!!) clocks to arrive here in Germany ...

But maybe I've a trick to do the tube soldering. In the instructions "... bend the wires out to keep the tube in place and solder each wire ..." one should solder all wires.

What if one solders only one wire - the top one. Then align the tube again and solder the bottom wire. So the tube is horizontally fixed.
Next solder the right wire, align vertically and solder the opposite wire on the left. Now the tube is fixed vertically and horizontally.
If the alignment is not as good as you want - there are only 4 wires to unsolder or re-heat to correct alignment.

Now solder the rest of the wires.

I think, that will work perfectly.

Bye

Stefan

Got mine today, took about an hour of leisurely build time.

Looking great.

Got mine a couple of days ago and like the others I must say it's a great kit! It was a bit expensive to get the package through customs here in Denmark (290 DKK or roughly $57 according to Google) but it was all worth it in the end. My soldering skills are a bit rusty so it took me a couple of hours to put together. I haven't yet found an appropriate adapter plug for the power supply, but luckily one of my ethernet switches uses one with exactly the same specs.

Great Job guys, I can't wait to get my kit. I ordered it a while ago. Are you guys getting shipping notification, or does the clock just show up?

In the past I've gotten an email from adafruit when they shipped my orders. If you created an account on adafruit.com when you ordered, you can check the status of your order there. If you ordered your clock after it appeared on Slashdot it'll be on back-order. :)

I put mine together on Saturday. The only problems I had were threading all those little wires through the PCB and my less than stellar soldering skills. The kit itself went together beautifully. I could really appreciate how much thought was put into it when I put it in the case and saw how perfectly everything lined up.

Here is mine. Took about 4 hours with minimal prior soldering experience. Everything worked first try. Also thanks to ladyada for the great kit and rushing out replacements right away for damaged parts.

I can only agree with previous posters: this kit was absolutely great; definitely worth the wait!
It all went together in about two hours and worked the first time - I think the most difficult steps were wiring the tube to the PCB (patience, patience..) and peeling the protective cover off the acrylic!

Another IceTube has found its place in a cat-loving home on the other side of the planet.
