Ice tube clock problems

Post by Iggie9 »

Hi,

I am having a problem with the Ice tube clock.
When I assembled it, I followed all of the instructions to the letter. When finished I had one diode left over but there doesn't seem to be anywhere to put it on the board.

I plugged the clock in and of the 3 buttons, the first one works perfectly (the one for changing between time setting, date setting etc) but the other 2 buttons do nothing (the set button & the + button).

Does anybody have any idea what the problem is here?

Post some nice clear photos of the front & back of the board & we will have a look for any assembly issues.

It looks like you have all 5 of the diodes placed properly. There was probably just an extra one in your kit. It is hard to tell from the photo, but you might have a cold solder joint or two there. Touch up any solder joint that isn't shiny or hasn't flowed well onto both the pin & the pad.

I have touched up just about all solder points on teh board. Now the first two switches work but still the third one (+) doesn't.

Well, that sounds like progress. Double check all the pins associated with the switches: That would be the switch leads themselves, as well as pins 6, 11 and 14 on the Atmega processor.
