What's the standard drift of the MONOCHRON?

Postby wesg » Wed Jun 06, 2012 8:02 pm

I've been using my MONOCHRON for about a year, and it appears to drift much more than the other digital clocks I have. Right now it's approx. 3 minutes fast, and that's after adjusting it once before.

What's the standard drift value of the RTC? What might cause it to drift and how can I correct it?

The DS1307 real-time clock chip in the Monochron may drift up to several seconds a day.

Some people have tweaked the accuracy with hand-selected crystals or modifications to the code. Others have retrofitted GPS modules to the clock for an accurate time-base.

The ChronoDot uses a higher-precision, temperature-compensated chip for more accuracy. It is software compatible with the DS1307 and should be possible to retrofit to a Monochron in the prototyping area. http://www.adafruit.com/products/255
