Sorry for the strange question, but I was planning to bring an ice tube clock to Europe as a gift for my cousin. Now that I am packing, I realize that it may not be ideal to fly the VFD...
I would prefer not take the clock as carry-on because I am fearing a lot of questions at security.
On the other hand I have no idea if the tube can resist the low pressure in the aircraft cargo!
Any advise will be greatly appreciated (I am leaving Monday afternoon;-),

Re: Ice tube clock in checked baggage?
I would be more worried about rough handling than pressure. Just pack it carefully since the tubes can be damaged by shock.

OK. I can control the packing pretty well, but not the pressure...

One thing worth mentioning...as of May of this year Lithium batteries cannot be shipped to international locations by air. I do not know if this would apply to your situation but I would check with your carrier to be sure there is not a problem in your case. Worst case you may have to remove the battery for the flight.

Hi,

Stefan
the "V" in VFD means vacuum. So there is almost no pressure inside the tube. On ground you have an outside pressure of almost 1000 hPa. Towards the average flight level the pressure decreases. So for the tube itself it's better / less stress to be in an environment with less pressure.lolitodubateau wrote: On the other hand I have no idea if the tube can resist the low pressure in the aircraft cargo!
