Sorry we missed your first post. Since you replied to it yourself, it didn't show up in out list of "unanswered posts".

Your soldering looks good. Check the voltages again with the display installed to make sure they are still in the right range.

Have you tried adjusting the trim-pot?

If I understand what you are saying, it goes from too dark to too light with nothing in between?

It sounds like you may have a defective trim-pot. If you contact [email protected] with a link to this thread we can send you another trim-pot.

Thanks for the new 10K trim potentiometer
I've fond finally some time to solder it.
I measured the old en new before i soldered the new one.
They gave the same result on the meter.
So , as i thought no better result, still at one point i've got visabillity, a hair too the right or left gives you a black or too bright screen.
I've looked at the site http://www.ladyada.net/make/monochron/newclock.html
they are all so bright and crisp on the screen, even your foto.
I can't get it so neat
I am eager to hear and try the next possible solution

Thanx

These displays are normally quite bright and crisp. In the photos, I can't see the soldering for the contrast circuit. Double check all those joints and re-touch any that do not look smooth and shiny. The rest of your solder looks quite good from what I can see.

If you still can't get a good image, contact [email protected] with a link to this thread and we can send you another display.

The contrast circuit is as in the diagram below. It includes pin 3, pin 18 and the pins of the contrast potentiometer.
