NeoPixel 60 Clock Instructions

Post by motionpotion »

Hi.

I'm trying to follow the NeoPixel Clock instructions but finding them really difficult and lacking clarity - sometimes lacking instructions for a few key steps.

For example, there seems to be a discrepancy between the diagram for the circuit here: https://learn.adafruit.com/assets/15842 and the final photo of the circuit here: https://learn.adafruit.com/system/asset ... 1397506860

The diagram says to connect DIN on the neopixel ring To Digital 6 on the Arduino but in the final photo the blue wire seems to be connected to the breadboard in another location that is hidden under the red wire.

Is it possible to post some more detailed instructions and more photos of final circuit?

It's unfortunate that the wires are all blue. However, I think the the 'hidden' wire is attached to GND. There is another blue wire attached to D6 on the opposite side of the breadboard. The third blue wire is clearly attached to the 5V rail.

I'll pass your comments along to the author.

Thank you. From what I can tell I also need to connect the arduino to the USB on my computer in order to transfer the code to the arduino? But nowhere does it say in the list of parts required that I will need an USB connection so I didn't buy that part.

Is there a tutorial on creating that type of USB connection to the arduino? For example, I have an old USB cable but not sure it is the correct type needed to transfer data & power.

The DC Boarduino used in that tutorial requires a USB/Serial converter cable such as the FTDI cable: https://www.adafruit.com/product/70

Are you using a Boarduino, or are you using some other kind of Arduino?

I'm using this one https://www.adafruit.com/products/72

I thought all the required products for the project would be linked at the top of the project so I only purchased those. I didn't realise I would also need a FTDI cable. :/

Yes. It is helpful to have a list of required tools as well as the parts for the project itself. I have added a note to the tutorial.

@motionpotion - please email [email protected] with a link to this thread. They'll send you an FTDI cable at no charge.
