Background: I learned about electronics in the early 80's and haven't really touched it since other than to buy an Arduino and make a few LED's blink.
I've been looking at the Chronodot and the Adafruit 0.56" 4-Digit 7-Segment Display w/I2C Backpack. I'd like to build a small 24 hour clock to put into a waterproof case and mount on the handlebars of my motorcycle.
My impression is that I need an Arduino to talk between the RTC and the display. I can probably figure out how to get my Duemillinova to do this but I'm lost on how to replace the Arduino with something significantly smaller.
Can anyone recommend resources that can help me figure this out? Are these components (mentioned above) even really the right ones? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

You could try a Pro Trinket. It's fairly small but with the same chip as the Uno.

Or even a regular trinket could do the job. 3.3v Trinket in the breadboard next to the Chronodot and Pro Trinket on the table.
