Monochron half a display

Post by factotum »

Hello all.

I built my Monochron a while back and it has sat on my desk without issue for some time.

I came in to work one morning to discover that the lower half of the display has an odd contrast type issue (see attached photo).

The display works (can see everything) fine except the lower half contrast looks wrong (it looks like there's no back light). Being an electronics repair tech I have checked all the soldering (immaculate), re-did all the key potential culprits (header connector pins etc.) and removed any flux just be sure with no change (I can send photos if you really want to see).

I also removed the bezel and confirmed the backlight is 100% OK, cleaned the pins and reassembled with no luck.

Anything else I should check or have I got a bung display?

Cheers!

That does look like a problem internal to the display module. When did you purchase the kit?

It seems a little longer than I thought (amazing how life can get away from you) - January 2011 according to my e-mails!

I figure it was quite some time before it was built, several more months of happy operation and then a great many more months of it sitting on the "to be fixed on a rainy day shelf"...

January 2011 according to my e-mails!
Unfortunately, that is quite a bit beyond the 30 day warranty period for these.
