My ds1307 seems to be working correctly.
I can set time and display it on the LCD display and also pint to the serial monitor, and all is OK when the USB is connected.
However when I run from a battery the time does not increment when the power is disconnected. When I reconnect the battery time starts from when I disconnected!
Also the 3.3v battery in the clock is dead.
the nice people at Adafruit ssent me a new battery.
I tested it and read 3.3v on my multimeter. I also test the impedance across the empty battery and read 7.6 Meg. ohms.
I inserted the new battery into the ds1307 and all seemed ok.
I disconnected the main battery, waited a few minutes. reconnected the battery, again it started at the time I disconnected.
I removed the new clock battery and now read 2.3 volts!
I did not include a picture as all seemed to be working correctly.
Thanks,
Bob

Make sure you are inserting it with the '+' side up. If inserted upside-down, the battery will short against the holder.
Also check that there are no stray solder spatters etc. in the holder that might cause a short.

The + on the battery matches + on the holder.
All soldering was done on the back side.

Re: ds1307 kills battery
I'd be concerned about those wires shorting out on the header. If you plan to hard-wire, omit the header and solder the wires directly to the holes.
In any case, I don't see anything that would explain the battery drain. Please contact [email protected] with a link to this thread for a replacement.

Thank you for looking. Yes I do need a better supply of hookup wire.
