100 pin TQFP doable?

by imaginerobots on Wed Jul 11, 2012 5:16 pm

Hi Folks,

I'm interested in building a PCB based on the 100 pin TQFP ATmega2560. This is the same micro used on the Arduino Mega. Is the PCB assembly of this chip doable using a toaster oven and hand placement?

Thanks

Absolutely - the key is a good solder paste print.
Alternativly use a line of paste on each edge, flow, and braid off the excess afterwards.

Thanks. Looking at some web videos looks like it will be easier if I use leaded paste. Will also need to get a magnification lens since I can barely see the pins.
